I’ve had a fair share of Italian’s in my time but was more than pleasantly surprised by the suggestion of Salvi’s Cucina on John Dalton Street the other day. I genuinely felt like we had just stepped off the streets of Manchester and been transported to a secret little eaterie in Naples.
A family run business, Salvi’s started out when owner Maurizio saw there was a demand for Campania sourced produce between his friends in the UK. So much so, he decided to open a deli in the redeveloped Corn Exchange and it was, of course, a hit.
One of the most impressive things about Salvi’s is that all their fresh ingredients is imported directly from Italy, and all their pasta and bread is made on site daily.
Our party opted for both pasta and pizza dishes. I went for one of the specials, penne pasta with mushrooms, olives and truffle oil, and it was absolutely delicious.
Chris went for a pasta dish with swordfish and a tomato based sauce. Just look at those colours!
And the pizza eaters certainly had their work cut out for them when these two enormous pizzas arrived! (Med veg with smoked mozzarella)
Sufficiently stuffed but unable to resist dessert, we decided to get the unmissable homemade Tiramisu to share.
